Lakeside Baptist Church of Canton will be hosting ‘4th of July at the Cross’ beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 4, at the corner of State Highway 64 and Nichols Drive.
There will be a full schedule of activities in Canton during the July 4 holiday weekend as the city will not only celebrate the Fourth of July but also America’s 250th Anniversary Celebration. City of Canton Marketing Director and Canton Visitors Bureau Director Austin Melton broke down the holiday schedule of events, scheduled for July 2-5 in conjunction with First Monday Weekend, during the regular monthly meeting of the Canton City Council June 16.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is planning to conduct the following construction and maintenance work in Van Zandt County during the week of June 22. Please remember, work schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure, or other unforeseen issues.

During the regular meeting of the VZC Commissioners Court June 17, VZC Judge Andy Reese announced that the VZC Historical Commission had received the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) for 2025 by the state.

A number of delegates from Van Zandt County attended the 2026 Republican State Convention that was held last week in Houston. For me, it ranked as one of the best Republican State Conventions that I have attended.
