Child Abuse Awareness Month emphasis discussed

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Representatives from the Children’s Advocacy Center of Van Zandt County (CACVZ) recently discussed the month of April being recognized as Child Abuse Awareness Month in VZC. Jana Deen Massey, CACVZ Board President and Amparo Mahler, CACVZ Executive Director spoke to members of the Canton Lions Club April 1 during the club’s weekly luncheon at the Van Zandt Country Club.

Youth Diversion Program helps VZC teens stay on track

The Van Zandt County Youth Diversion Program completed its first full year in 2025, offering an alternative for certain Class ‘C’ misdemeanor cases involving youth and keeping many out of the traditional court process.

Former detention officer arrested following internal investigation

The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department recently released the following information on their Facebook page: On March 16, the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit initiated an investigation into a detention officer for allegedly introducing contraband into a correctional facility.

Suits wins FWSSR Scholarship Award

A $16,000.00 scholarship was recently awarded to Isabelle Suits of the Wills Point FFA by the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble Scholarship Committee. She is the daughter of Gregory and Tiffany Suits.

Three April resolutions approved by commissioners
