Council discusses participation in Film Friendly Texas program

Mayor Crow celebrating 25 years of service in Edom

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Barbara Crow’s decision to first run for mayor of Edom did not come overnight. Looking back, Crow said that she began thinking about it 10 years before she actually signed up to run against the incumbent in May 2001.
Barbara Crow, 75, is celebrating 25 years as mayor of Edom this month. Crow was first elected as mayor in May 2001 and has not faced an opponent in any of her re-election efforts since then. The mayor began her current four-year term in November 2024. Crow said that it was too early to discuss whether this will be her final term in office. Photo by David Barber

Groundbreaking held for new Hall Chevrolet GMC facility

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Under warm and sunny skies May 13, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Hall Chevrolet GMC dealership location on State Highway 19 near Taco Bell in Canton. “Hall Chevrolet GMC is proud to announce the groundbreaking of its new, state of the art dealership facility in Canton,” said Hall Chevrolet GMC Owner Pam Hall.

Three workshop items discussed by VZC Commissioners Court

The first workshop item involved the number of radios needed for each Road and Bridge Precinct as installation of the new emergency radio system continues.

Fatal hit-and-run accident being investigated by DPS

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are seeking the public’s help in a fatal hitand- run accident that happened May 8 in Van Zandt County. A pedestrian was hit around 11:30 p.m.

Current Game Room ordinance discussed during workshop

davidb@vanzandtnews.com An overflow crowd May 6 at the Van Zandt County Courthouse witnessed a marathon four-hour regular meeting session of the VZC Commissioners Court where the main topic of discussion centered around the current VZC Game Room Regulations.

Van PD among law enforcement involved in pursuit

Through a Facebook post, the Van Police Department shared the following information about a pursuit they were involved in that resulted in the arrest of three suspects May 9. ‘In the early morning hours of 05-09-2026, officers were made aware of a pursuit from the Heath Police Department (Rockwall County).

National Day of Prayer celebrated in VZC
