The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs captured the Class 2A State Championship March 2 with a thrilling 44-42 win in the championship game played at The Alamodome in San Antonio. The Lady Mustangs finished their state title season with an overall record of 36-5.

Several members of the District 16-4A Basketball Champion Canton Eaglettes and the third place Van Lady Vandals were recognized for their achievements on and off the court recently.

A 14-game winning streak and the season both came to an end March 1 for the Martins Mill Mustangs’ varsity boys’ basketball team at the hands of Beckville, 5348, in overtime. Jak Kinder led the Mustangs, 32-5 overall for the season, in scoring with 22 points.

The Edgewood varsity girls’ basketball team advanced to the Regional Tournament after a thrilling 42-38 overtime victory Feb. 20 over Pottsboro.

With two victories in the Class 2A regional tournament in Athens Feb. 23, 24, the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs advanced to the state tournament in San Antonio.
