The Wills Point Lady Tigers captured one of their most exciting wins of the season as they outlasted Mabank, 44-41, in overtime at home Dec. 5.

In a battle of Van Zandt County rivals, the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs outlasted the Canton Eaglettes, 46-31, Dec. 5 in Canton.

Coming off a 22-3 overall record, a District 16-4A championship with a 9-1 mark, and a Class 4A Bi-District title, the Van Lady Vandals, under second year Head Coach Kay Bachert, are looking for another strong performance during the 2023-24 varsity basketball season.

The Canton Eagles defeated Commerce, 42-35, on the road Nov. 28 to improve their season record to 4-2.

Through three games this season, the Wills Point Tiger varsity boys’ basketball team holds a 1-2 record as they have defeated Paris North Lamar, 56-40, and lost to North Hopkins, 48-38, and Dallas Life Oak Cliff, 50-45.

The Edgewood Bulldogs and the Grand Saline Indians were well represented on the District 9-3A, Division 2, All-District Football Team recently released. One of the ‘Superlative’ awards was given to Grand Saline sophomore quarterback Jett Taylor, who was named as the district’s ‘Offensive Newcomer’ of the season.

Hopes of moving on to the regional semifinal round of the Class 4A, Division 2, state football playoffs came to an end for the Van Vandals Nov. 17 as they lost to the Aubrey Chapparals, 35-14, in the Area Championship game at Royse City.
