Body Seven teams will be advancing to the state fishing tournament with the Grand Saline High School Bass Association (GSHSBA) next month. “Lake Tawakoni wasn’t sharing its treasures with this tournament easily,” said a GSHSBA spokesperson.

Van’s Landry Jones named to All-State Team

Body Van senior Landry Jones was recently named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s All-State Girls Basketball Team for Class 4A. Jones was also named to the Class 1A-4A Legacy All-Star Team.

Van boys, girls compete well in Emory track meet

Body Van finished second in the boys’ division and placed fourth in the girls’ division March 21 at the Avon Rice Relays at Rains High School in Emory. The Vandal boys’ track team finished second out of 12 teams with 62 points.

Three VZC players named to All-Region Team

Body Three varsity girls’ basketball players in Van Zandt County were recently named to the Class 4A All-Region Team by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Among those named to the team were Landry Jones of Van, Chloe Howe of Canton, and Allison Rickman of Canton.

Body A six-run sixth inning proved to be too much to overcome as the Wills Point Tiger varsity baseball team lost to Mabank, 11-0, March 19. Carson LaJone led the Tigers with one hit in two at bats.

Body The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs captured the Class 2A State Championship March 2 with a thrilling 44-42 win in the championship game played at The Alamodome in San Antonio. The Lady Mustangs finished their state title season with an overall record of 36-5.
The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs captured their seventh state championship since 2006 as they defeated Nocona, 44-42, March 2 at The Alamodome in San Antonio to win the Class 2A Girls’ State Basketball Championship. Mustangs end season with loss to Beckville, 53-48

Body A 14-game winning streak and the season both came to an end March 1 for the Martins Mill Mustangs’ varsity boys’ basketball team at the hands of Beckville, 5348, in overtime. Jak Kinder led the Mustangs, 32-5 overall for the season, in scoring with 22 points.
