Tigers play host to District 13-4A Meet

The Wills Point Tiger track and field program were able to enjoy the comforts of home for a second consecutive week April 8, following up their annual Bluebird Relays April 2 by hosting the District 13-4A Meet.

Van Zandt County track and field athletes representing Wills Point, Canton, Edgewood, and Van had their hands full last week, taking on a stacked field of top competitors from across the area while also racing, jumping and pole vaulting in relentless winds at the Bluebird Relays April 2 in Wills Point.

Mustangs fall short in attempt to be repeat champion

A repeat state championship was not meant to be for the Martins Mill Mustangs varsity boys’ basketball team March 12 as they lost to Lipan, 47-34, in the Class 2A, Division 2, state championship game played before a crowd of 4,832 at The Alamodome in San Antonio.

Martins Mill Mustangs seeking repeat state title

Just like it was in the girls’ state championship game March 5, the battle for the Class 2A, Division 2, boys’ state title was decided March 12 when the defending state champion Martins Mill Mustangs took on Lipan at The Alamodome in San Antonio.

Lady Mustangs fall short of achieving ‘three-peat’

The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs were attempting to accomplish a rare ‘three-peat’ state championship, but it was not meant to be March 5 at The Alamodome in San Antonio as the two-time defending Class 2A, Division 2, State Champions lost in the State Championship game to Lipan, 42-35. Kara Nixon led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 17 points followed by Teeley Salazar with seven, McKenna Wise with six, Brilen Butcher with three, and Alli Vaughan with four.
The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs were seeking a ‘three-peat’ state championship against Lipan in the Class 2A, Division 2, State Championship Game March 5 at The Alamodome in San Antonio but their efforts came up short in a 42-35 loss. Van, Canton represented on basketball All-District Team

The Van Vandals and the Canton Eagles were well represented on the District 15-4A All-District Boys’ Basketball Team released March 4. Representing the Vandals on the First Team were junior Rawly Hinch and Kale Carter.

Edgewood, GS represented on Class 3A All-State Team

Body
The District 9-3A, Division 2, champion Edgewood Bulldogs and the district runner-up, the Grand Saline Indians, were well represented on the Blue Bell/ Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Class 3A All-State Football Team that was recently released.

Van, Canton represented on Class 4A All-State Team

Body
The Van Vandals and the Canton Eagles were well represented on the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Class 4A All-State Football Team recently released. Vandal offensive guard Landon Robinson (6-1, 300-pound senior) was named to the All-State First Team.
