The ninth week of the 2022 football season brought mixed results for county teams as two teams scored wins, two teams suffered losses and two teams enjoyed their bye week. Games should only intensify during the coming weeks with the bi-district round of the playoffs looming just over the horizon.

The Edgewood Lady Dogs put one final exclamation point to a sterling regular season this week, moving their overall season record to 30-8 with a three set sweep of the rival Grand Saline Lady Indians Oct. 25.

Canton Eaglette players and coaches were not shy about their goals entering the 2022 season, putting a district title near the top of their lists. Canton reached that goal in impressive fashion over the past week of play, notching wins over Brownsboro and Van to finish the regular season with a 36-9 mark, a district championship and the program’s first-ever perfect run through district on their resume.

Runners representing Van Zandt County’s three largest school districts, Canton, Van and Wills Point, squared off against some of the top competitors in the region on Oct. 24 with a shot at the Class 4A State Cross Country Meet hanging in the balance.

Van City Council members approved the creation of several new stop sign intersections during its regular monthly meeting Oct. 13.
