WP student competed in state rodeo finals

Body Bobbi ‘Breanne’ Talbott of Wills Point traveled to Abilene June 4-13 to compete in the Texas High School Rodeo Association (THSRA) state finals. The state finals rodeo is an annual week-long event where high school students across Texas and surrounding states come and compete.

Bobbie Lester named Regional Coach of the Year

Body Wills Point High School Girls’Cross Country Coach Bobbie Lester has been named as the Class 4A, Region 3, Girls’ Cross Country Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA).
Wills Point High School Girls’ Cross Country Coach Bobbie Lester was recently named as the Class 4A, Region 3, Girls’ Cross Country Coach of the Year. Lester has served as the WPHS Girls’ Cross Country Coach for the past 25 years. She has worked as a teacher and coach at WPHS during her entire professional career.

Taylor finishes second, fifth in state track events

Body Jett Taylor of Grand Saline placed in two different events during the recent Class 3A State Track Meet in Austin. Taylor, who played quarterback in Grand Saline and will be playing college football at Navy, finished in second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.

Lady Indians seeking berth in state tournament

Body The Grand Saline Indians are one win away from a trip to the Class 3A State Softball Championship Game with an overall record of 32-10. To get to the state title contest, they will have to defeat the 25-5 Coahoma Bulldogettes in a one-game playoff in the state semifinal round.

WPHS Tennis State Qualifiers recognized

Body The Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees saw a changing of the guard May 11, welcoming two new board members following the conclusion of the May 2 election cycle.
Wills Point High School State Tennis Qualifiers Brooklyn Dixon and Wyatt Harper were recognized during the regular monthly meeting of the Wills Point School Board May 11. The duo traveled to San Antonio May 7, 8 for the state tournament after outlasting a talented Panther Creek team in the Regional Tournament April 21. VZC well represented in state softball playoffs

Body Several Van Zandt County varsity softball teams opened post-season play recently with matchups in the bi-district round of the state softball playoffs. The Canton Eaglettes faced Carthage in a best-of-three series that began April 23 at Tyler Legacy.

Miracle Madness Tournament set for June 13 in Canton

Body The Brantley Team at Re/Max Landmark in Canton has announced that the Fourth Annual Miracle Madness Basketball Tournament is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Canton Junior High School Gymnasium located on Athens Street.
