DAVID BARBER davidb@vanzandtnews.com Through a power-point presentation, Van ISD Superintendent Don Dunn presented a program on the topic of a potential four-day instructional school week during the Van Area Chamber of Commerce Quarterly Luncheon March 7 downtown at The Movie House. The title of Dunn’s program was ‘The Four Day School Week: Everything You’ve Wanted to Know (At Least, Everything That I Could Think Of).’ Around 30 people were in attendance during the luncheon.

Several VZC employees recognized for years of service

A number of Van Zandt County employees received certificates in recognition of their years of service during the March 1 regular meeting of the VZC Commissioners Court. VZC District Judge Chris Martin recognized three employees with certificates for their years of service to VZC.

WP man arrested on Indecency with a Child charge

A longtime Wills Point ISD staffer was taken into custody last week by Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office deputies on alleged charge of Indecency with a Child Sexual Conduct. Superintendent Richard Cooper advised district stakeholders of the news in a notice issued Feb.

Mineola Pilot Club teams with Van graduate for fundraiser

Bryant Cox, a 2022 graduate of Van High School will direct a murder mystery for the Pilot Club of Mineola’s dinner-play fundraiser. Bryant is a senior theater major at Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie.

Van Zandt Newspapers is putting out the call to all local photographers for the annual 2023 Explore Magazine Photography Contest. Winning entries will be featured in Van Zandt Newspapers’ annual Explore Magazine with name credit.

Bachert awarded National Army ROTC Scholarship

About 10,000 applicants are reviewed for the National ROTC Scholarships and less than a thousand receive the three or four year distinguished national scholarship. The process for selection is very similar to that of the military academies.
