TSQG to have booth at ET Fiber Festival

Members of the Texas Star Quilters Guild (TSQG) have been busy with plans for this new year. In addition to our mission statement of involvement in various charity endeavors throughout the community, we will be partnering with various other organizations and participating in their events.

DAR begins 250th anniversary celebration in style

The National Society Daughters of the Americal Revolution (NSDAR), Neches River Chapter, celebrated the American Revolution and the upcoming 250th birthday of the nation on Feb. 23 with a visit to The American Revolution Experience exhibit in Mabank. The exhibit, sponsored by the Sarah Maples Chapter NSDAR, presented storyboards, a raffle, activities and artifacts on the roots of the United States’ break with Great Britain and the people and events of the RevolutionaryWar.

On Feb. 26, Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department Captain Brandon Kilpatrick released the following statement regarding the recent arrest of a Canton man in an alleged Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon against an Athens man.

UT Health ET Urgent Care moves to new location

UT Health East Texas Urgent Care in Canton has relocated to a new, convenient location at 406 East State Highway 243 inside the UT Health East Texas Physicians Clinic as of Monday, March 2. The urgent care will continue to offer extended hours and walk-in access for patients needing prompt treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.

Charity 5K run, pickleball tournament scheduled

The Isaiah 40:31 Charity 5k Run and Pickleball Tournament are scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at Twin Lakes Nursery in Canton. Proceeds will benefit Eleazar Alejos.

Early Voting ends; Election Day is March 3

Early Voting for the March 3 Republican and Democratic Primary Elections in Van Zandt County ended Friday, Feb. 27 as the emphasis now moves on to Election Day voting scheduled for Tuesday, March 3 Early Voting began Feb. 17 at both locations. The Early Voting totals through Feb. 24 were as follows: There were 3,371 total Early Votes cast as of Feb. 24 including 2,713 (2,324 Republicans and 369 Democrats) at the Canton location and 658 (534 Republicans and 119 Democrats) at the Van location.

ROVFD to host Annual Pancake Day March 7

The Rolling Oaks Volunteer Fire Department (ROVFD) will host their Annual Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 7 at the ROVFD Station located at the corner of Bee Hill Road and Hollow Horn Road (139 VZCR 3832) in Wills Point.
