Henderson County Jail officer dies in wreck

russell@themonitor.net Just 10 days after being honored along with his peers by Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse’s Life Saving Award, a county jail detention officer was killed in the early morning hours of March 26 in a single-vehicle crash on Farm to Market Road 317 near the Blackjack community.

Canton sculptor plans tribute to Kerrville flood victims

On July 4, 2025, an unspeakable tragedy occurred in the Hill Country in Kerr County. Before dawn, in less than an hour, heavy rains caused flash flooding on the tranquil Guadalupe River, with waters quickly rising up to 36 feet.

Park improvements discussed during Edom council meeting

At a regularly scheduled meeting on March 12 at the Edom Community Center, the Edom City Council moved forward on several fronts, from park improvements to municipal landscaping contracts. The session opened with the calling of the roll and approving last month’s minutes and financial reports.

MMISD trustees recognize ‘Students of the Month’

‘Students of the Month’ for March were recognized by the Martins Mill School Board during its regular monthly meeting March 23. The ‘Students of the Month’ at each campus were Itzel Padron and Ruben Ramirez, elementary; Victoria Jordan, junior high; and Madison Damuth, high school.

WPISDEF Gala raises more than $465,000 for classrooms

The Wills Point ISD Education Foundation (WPISDEF) hosted its annual gala recently and left no doubt that the community’s dedication to its schools is stronger than ever. Thanks to generous bids, spirited fundraising and the tireless efforts of dozens of volunteers, the event raised a record-setting $465,000, all earmarked to enrich Wills Point ISD classrooms.
