The Edom City Council held its regular monthly meeting April 9 at the Edom Community Center. According to Edom Mayor Barbara Crow, the meeting opened with reports including attendance, minutes, and financials.

Planning for a special ‘America’s 250th Birthday Celebration’ event will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce building.

The Van Zandt County Fair Junior Livestock Market Auction was held Friday, April 3, during the VZC Fair at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton. Proceeds went to FFA and 4-H exhibitors.

The current state and future of the Wills Point Community Center/Easterwood Plaza took center stage as city leaders and representatives from the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce discussed issues and potential short and long-term fixes during a regularly scheduled Wills Point City Council session that stretched nearly two hours April 14.

The Wills Point ISD Board of Trustees met for more than two hours April 13, tackling an agenda heavy on student and staff recognitions, administrative reports and discussion about facility upgrades. Unlike other school board meetings, the trustees held its April 13 session at the high school after recent heavy storms resulted in damage at the administrative offices that were still in the process of being repaired as of meeting time.

Van City Manager Jeff Hudgens shared with the council members that the April sales tax numbers were received showing a total of $111,183.00 compared to $88,000.00 in April of last year.

Wills Point High School invites businesses, colleges, trade schools, and community organizations to participate in the WPHS Career Fair and Adulting Day from 12:47 p.m. to 2:51 p.m.

Van Zandt County Veterans Service Officer Tommy Forgue of Canton was in the Army’s 10th Mountain Division Operation connected with the 5th Special Forces Group. He received two Bronze Stars and over 30 Ribbons and Citations, spending two tours in Kuwait and Iraq.
