Senior fitness group honors memory of oldest member

davidb@vanzandtnews.com A senior citizen group that meets regularly at Anytime Fitness in Canton took time to honor the memory of their senior member April 12. Liston Barber of Martins Mill, the oldest member of ‘The Old Timers Club’ senior citizen fitness group, passed away March 17 at the age of 99.

Vandals, Lady Vandals compete in Regional Track and Field Meet

Van was well represented during the Class 4A Regional Track and Field Meet held April 18, 19 at East Texas A&M University in Commerce. Results of the Vandal and Lady Vandal participants in the Regional Track and Field Meet were as follows: Girls’ 100-Meter Dash McKenzi Crawford, fifth place, 12.37 seconds.

Kinder signs with LeTourneau

Jak Kinder, the only senior on the Class 2A, Division 2, State Champion Martins Mill Mustang varsity basketball team, signed a National Letter of Intent April 22 to play at LeTourneau University in Longview. Kinder was the MVP of the state championship game and broke the National Record for career three-point baskets made during his varsity high school career. Kinder was named ‘Player of the Year’ in Class 2A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC). He will be playing in the TABC All-Star Game in San Antonio. Kinder was joined by family, coaches, and teammates for the signing.

The Grand Saline and Edgewood varsity track teams were represented April 10 in Eustace at the Class 3A Area 15, 16 Track and Field Meet. Individual results for Grand Saline and Edgewood in the Area track and field meet were as follows: Boys’ 100-Meter Dash Bryan Paniagua, Edgewood, eighth place, 11.82 seconds.

Cheer competition set to ignite youth football spirit in VZC

Excitement is being built as the 903 Youth Football and Cheer league prepares for its annual cheer competition, showcasing the talent and dedication of young athletes across the region. Founded by local towns including Brownsboro, Canton, Edgewood, Mineola, Quinlan, and Wills Point, this cooperative youth league has quickly gained traction and is eager to welcome a new member, Kemp, into the fold this season.
