Body Winning state championships has become the norm rather than the exception for the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs’ basketball program in recent years. Not only did the Lady Mustangs win their eighth state championship in their last 19 state tournament appearances Feb.
For the second year in a row, the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs earned the title of Class 2A, Division 2, State Basketball Champions with a 43-41 overtime win over Farwell in the state championship game played Feb. 27 in San Antonio. Lady Mustangs seeking second straight state title

Body The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs were seeking their second consecutive Class 2A, Division 2, state championship Feb. 27 when they faced Farwell at The Alamodome in San Antonio. Results of the state title game were not available at press time.

Martins Mill boys advance in state basketball playoffs

Body The Martins Mill Mustang boys’ basketball team continued their winning ways in post-season play as they advanced to the regional round of the Class 2A, Division 2 state playoffs. Martins Mill captured a hard fought 45-38 victory over Gary Feb.

Body Varsity boys’ basketball teams in Van, Edgewood, and Grand Saline saw their dreams of a potential state championship run come to a close recently. The Van Vandals lost to the Paris North Lamar Panthers, 52-43, Feb.

Five Vandals named to All-State Football Team

Body Five members of the Van Vandal football team that advanced to the Class 4A, Division 2 State Quarterfinals during the 2024 season with an overall record of 10-4 were recently named to the Texas Sportswriters Association (TSWA) All-State Football Team.

Eagles end basketball season with loss to Sanger, 44-36

Body The opportunity to advance in the Class 3A state basketball playoffs did not happen for the Canton Eagles Feb. 25 as they lost their third-round game to Sanger, 44-36, in Farmersville ending Canton’s season with an 18-18 overall record.

Vandals whip Chapel Hill to advance in playoffs, 68-47

Body The Van Vandals improved their season record to 2112 with an impressive 68-47 victory over the Chapel Hill Bulldogs in the bi-district round of the Class 4A state basketball playoffs Feb. 18 in Tyler.
