Over 700 votes cast during first two days

davidb@vanzandtnews.com As of the end of the business day Feb. 21, a total of 732 votes had been cast during the first two days of Early Voting for the March 5 Primary Election, according to the Van Zandt County Clerk’s office.

Meeting held to discuss VZ County preparations for Solar Eclipse event

Representatives from several law enforcement agencies, First Responders, school district, and city officials throughout Van Zandt County were among those gathered to hear and share information regarding VZC’s plans for the Monday, April 8 Total Solar Eclipse event.

Final list of city, school candidates released

davidb@vanzandtnews.com With the filing deadline of Feb. 16 officially in the books, the list of candidates throughout Van Zandt County running in the May 4 city and school elections has been released.

City of Van receives recognition

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced recently that the City of Van is the latest local government entity to achieve specific financial transparency goals through the Comptroller’s Transparency Stars program.

Precinct, county convention dates released

The Van Zandt County Republican Party has set the dates for the upcoming precinct and county conventions. Saturday, March 9, will be a gathering of the entire VZC precincts.

VZC athletes named as scholarship winners

The Texas Area Basketball Association of Basketball Offi cials (TABO) recently named 13 boys and girls varsity basketball players as area recipients of scholarship awards.

Library

The Grand Saline Friends of the Library is beginning its annual membership drive with letters going out to those who have joined in the past. The membership drive is the Friends’ main fundraising event each year.

Dutton sworn in as state representative
