County football programs returned to the gridiron Sept. 9, continuing their respective preparations for district play in several high level contests. Edgewood and Grand Saline would each ace their tests while Canton, Fruitvale, Van and Wills Point all came up short on the scoreboard.

Traffic near the intersection of Main Street and Patterson in Grand Saline was brought to a standstill Sept. 13 after a multi-vehicle accident resulted in a fishing boat being knocked off a trailer and onto the roadway. In a subsequent release, Grand Saline PD officials explained that the incident occurred at approximately 7:48 a.m., with one patient sustaining critical injuries that required CareFlite assistance. Officials added that the accident was currently under investigation as of press time.

Groundbreaking ceremony held for new travel stop in Van

A number of City of Van, Van Zandt County, and other officials were on hand Sept. 8 for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Victron/Gateway Travel Center located on the southeast corner of Interstate 20 and FM 314 in Van.
