VZC traffic stop results in major drug bust

Body According to Van Zandt County Sheriff’s social media, a traffic stop by the VZC Interdiction Team on July 9 led to the discovery of over two pounds of methamphetamine and the arrest of a local man.

Mark Thompson appointed to Van Council

Body Following a closed executive session July 10, the Van City Council voted to appoint Van resident Mark Thompson to serve as the Place #5 city council member. The Place #5 seat had been vacant since Ernie Burns was elected as mayor on May 3 in the city election.

GS Creek project discussion draws large crowd

Body susan@vanzandtnews.com On the evening of July 15, the Canton City Council convened for a crucial meeting that attracted a large assembly of concerned Grand Saline Creek Reservoir residents.
An overflow crowd was in attendance July 15 for the regular monthly meeting of the Canton City Council at Canton City Hall. The primary discussion item at the meeting had to do with the highly debated Grand Saline Creek Reservoir project the city has been involved in. A number of residents living in the reservoir project area voiced their objections to the city’s extensive long-term water resource strategy referencing a comprehensive water study initiated in 2004. Body Excessive heat and high humidity are being experienced all across East Texas. Utility bills will be high and low income households may be challenged to deal with these high bills.
