Correspondent The 67th annual Van Zandt County Fair and Rodeo ended April 5 and was held in conjunction with the Junior Livestock Market Animal Shows. The market animal shows were held on Wednesday, April 1, and the Ag Mechanics competitions took place Monday, March 30.

davidb@vanzandtnews.com A young 13-year-old cancer patient from Houston who became nationally known during U.S. President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address earlier this year was named as an ‘Honorary Deputy’ in the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department during a special ceremony April 4 in Canton.

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Following the tornado that hit Van Zandt County April 4, Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese released the following statement to the News. “The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that an EF-0 tornado touched down Friday, April 4, 2025, in Van Zandt County southeast of Grand Saline during the time period of 3:17-3:30pm,” said Reese.
