DJ Daniel named as ‘Honorary Deputy’ in VZC

davidb@vanzandtnews.com A young 13-year-old cancer patient from Houston who became nationally known during U.S. President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address earlier this year was named as an ‘Honorary Deputy’ in the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department during a special ceremony April 4 in Canton.

No injuries reported following April 4 tornado

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Following the tornado that hit Van Zandt County April 4, Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese released the following statement to the News. “The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that an EF-0 tornado touched down Friday, April 4, 2025, in Van Zandt County southeast of Grand Saline during the time period of 3:17-3:30pm,” said Reese.

The Canton Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has announced a Groundbreaking Ceremony for a significant expansion of Industrial Park #1, located at 1171 Industry Drive, Canton. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7.

Town Hall Meeting held in Van to discuss upcoming bond election

An estimated 20 citizens were in attendance April 1 for a Town Hall Meeting at Van City Hall to discuss an upcoming $3.5 million Bond Election scheduled for May 3. Van Interim City Manager Jeff Hudgens led a power-point presentation discussing the need to re-drill Water Well #3, one of four water wells in the city.
