VZC high school graduation ceremonies underway

With two high school graduation ceremonies concluded in Van Zandt County, four more VZC schools will take center stage Friday, May 23. Martins Mill High School was the first school in VZC to have graduation May 15 followed by Canton High School May 16.

New, incumbent trustees sworn into office in Van

VZC Fair Robotics, Spelling Bee results released

FAITH CAUGHRON Correspondent Results of the Robotics and Spelling Bee competitions in the recent Van Zandt County Fair and Rodeo held at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton were as follows: Robotics The Junior division winning team was the Van Zandt 4-H Clover team. Second place went to the Van Zandt 4-H ‘Jack’ team. Third place was Eustace ‘Florence’ and fourth place was the Martins Mill ‘Cool’ team.

Workshop session held at conclusion of meeting

The purpose of the workshop session was to discuss collaboration between the four precinct Road and Bridge departments to help with road repairs and cost savings, according to the agenda item.

Farm Bureau donates 134 pounds of pork to Manna

The Van Zandt County Farm Bureau donated 134 pounds of pork to Manna in Canton on May 7. The hog was purchased at the Junior Livestock Market Auction during the VZC Fair and Rodeo held in April. The VZC Farm Bureau was on the Top 10 list of buyers at the auction. The donation to Manna is another part of giving back to the community. Shown were VZC Farm Bureau Board of Directors Members Gabe Beverly, Brian Cummins, and Clayton Conway, along with VZC Farm Bureau Insurance Agent Maci Schley.

Revised by-laws for Andrews Center approved

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Revised by-laws for the Andrews Center were approved by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court during its regular meeting May 7. The Andrews Center, which provides behavioral health services, serves five counties and has an office in Canton on State Highway 243.
Van Zandt County Sheriff Kevin Bridger requested approval to purchase two in-car camera systems for the VZC Sheriff’s Department vehicles during the regular meeting of the VZC Commissioners Court May 7. The commissioners’ court agreed to the purchase totaling $6,750.00 which will be paid out of contingency funds. Photo by David Barber
