Van Zandt County Genealogical Society Publicity Director The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society held its yearly November ‘Show and Tell’ meeting on Nov. 28 at the VZC/Sarah Norman Library in Canton.

With winter quickly approaching, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) encourages residents in the western, southwestern and northeastern portions of Texas to practice appropriate bear safety measures and report sightings.

Christmas Parades and other holiday activities are drawing closer throughout Van Zandt County as four VZC cities have released their plans to celebrate the holiday season and they are as follows: Van A lighted Christmas Parade, caroling, a tree lighting, ‘Vantastic’ photo ops including Santa and Mrs. Claus will be featured in the City of Van’s ‘Christmas Experience’ starting at 6 p.m.

During a 10-minute special session Nov. 17, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court officially canvassed the results from the Nov. 7 General Election involving 14 proposed Constitutional Amendments as well as the special election for Texas House District 2 representative.

Bucky Baker of Wills Point has always been one to give back to the community whether it was to the schools, local businesses or to the kids never wanting a pat on the back, just wanting to help the people who need it.

The candidate filing period for the March 2024 Primary Election continues through Monday, Dec. 11, according to the VZC Clerk’s office.

The Wills Point Community Angel Tree (WPCAT) is a community- wide, annual donation program that provides Christmas gifts for children in families facing financial hardship during the holiday season. This year, the goal of WPCAT is to make sure that each child (from newborns to high school seniors) receives two new outfits with shoes and a coat, and that each family receives a bag of food and a turkey.
