The City of Edgewood recently named John Morrison as its new Police Chief. Morrison started his career in law enforcement in 2010 when he graduated from the East Texas Police Academy.

Preparations under way for parades

The information for those events are as follows: Wills Point The annual Wills Point Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade as well as ‘Christmas on the Bricks’ will highlight the holiday activities for 2023.

Texas House District 2 runoff election set for Jan. 30

During the regular meeting of the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court Nov. 22, VZC Clerk Susan Strickland informed the commissioners’ court that Governor Greg Abbott has set a new runoff election date in the race for the currently vacant Texas House District 2 seat.

Commissioners Court nominates three to serve in 3-2 vote

In a 3-2 vote, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court nominated three individuals to serve on the Van Zandt County Appraisal District’s Board of Directors for the next two years. Larry Shackelford of Ben Wheeler, David King of Canton, and Kyle Thompson of Grand Saline were among eight nominees that the commissioners’ court chose from during its regular meeting Nov.

The Wills Point Community Angel Tree (WPCAT) is a community-wide, annual donation program that provides Christmas gifts for children in families facing financial hardship during the holiday season. The WPCAT had 350 Angels available for sponsoring but still have over 100 unadopted Angels available for sponsoring.
