Edgewood plane crash kills pilot

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Media & Communications/ Safety Education Sgt. Adam Albritton, a preliminary investigation indicated that on Dec. 26, 2003, at around 6 p.m., a civilian aircraft crashed in the area of 114 Private Road 7005 in Edgewood.

As we prepare to bring in the new year of 2024, it is time to take a look back at the stories and photos that made 2023 a year so eventful. From the swearing-in ceremony for 16 Van Zandt County public officials on the first day of the year to the Martins Mill High School Robotics state championship late in the year, there were many accomplishments and some disappointments that occurred.

MMHS Robotics Team competes in state competition

susan@vanzandtnews.com The Martins Mill High School Robotics Team went to Fair Park in Dallas November 30 -December 2 to compete again for a state championship. Since 2015, MMHS has been the State Game Champions nine times and the State BEST Champions four times.

Early Voting schedule released for Jan. 30 special election

davidb@vanzandtnews.com A Notice of Order of Election for the January 30, 2024, special runoff election for the Texas House District 2 state representative seat was approved by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court during its regular meeting Dec. 20, their final regular meeting scheduled for 2023.

After 11 years of serving the people of Wills Point, retiring Mayor Mark Turner was honored and recognized by friends, family, and co-workers during the regular monthly meeting of the Wills Point City Council Dec. 12.

Early Voting period announced for March 5 Primary Election

The Early Voting period for the upcoming March 5, 2024, Primary Election in Van Zandt County has been announced by the VZC Clerk’s office. All Early Voting will take place at the VZC/Sarah Norman Library in Canton beginning Feb.
