The Tiger tennis program continued to roll in during its fall season last week, downing Spring Hill Sept. 3 to push their season mark to 8-1. Wills Point’s lone setback during the fall season was a narrow 10-9 loss to a Longview squad currently ranked 20th overall in the 5A classification. The Tigers were scheduled to wrap up non-district with a match against Sulphur Springs at home Sept. 8 before tangling with Sunnyvale Sept. 15 to open district.

County football programs hit the field for the second time in as many weeks Sept. 2, continuing preparations for the upcoming district slate against a set of talented opponents. Edgewood and Van each brought home victories, while Canton, Fruitvale, Grand Saline and Wills Point came up short.

Lady Dogs finish second at home tourney

DAVID KAPITAN sports@vanzandtnews.com The Edgewood Lady Dogs played host to some of the top volleyball programs from across the area last week, hosting teams from Blue Ridge, Westwood, Sulphur Springs, Miller Grove, Canton, Brownsboro, Caddo Mills, Van, Cayuga, Farmersville and Wills Point for their annual varsity tournament. Edgewood has been no stranger to tournament success this season, winning first overall at the Chuck Powers Invitational Tournament in Eustace Aug.
