Lady Panthers edge past Wills Point Lady Tigers

sports@vanzandtnews.com The Wills Point Lady Tigers continued District 14-4A play last week, making the short trek to Quinlan for a matchup against the Ford Lady Panthers. Wills Point would come up short in the contest, narrowly winning the first set before falling to Ford 24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.

Indians continue shutout streak

The 2022 football season has taken plenty of twists and turns for county football teams since play began back on Aug. 26. Last week proved to be no exception as Canton returned to the win column, Edgewood stayed perfect on the young season, Grand Saline posted its second consecutive shutout, Wills Point took the field without head coach Tommy Poynter, Van suffering a rare lopsided defeat and Fruitvale missing game action entirely due to injury concerns within the program.

Teams compete at Canton Running Eagles Invitational

A host of local cross country programs, including runners from Canton, Edgewood, Grand Saline, Martins Mill, Van and Wills Point, made their way to the Canton Sept. 10 to compete at the annual Running Eagles Invitational.

County football programs returned to the gridiron Sept. 9, continuing their respective preparations for district play in several high level contests. Edgewood and Grand Saline would each ace their tests while Canton, Fruitvale, Van and Wills Point all came up short on the scoreboard.

Three compete at Yellowjacket Invitational

Van Zandt County was well represented in Mineola last week with three schools, Edgewood, Grand Saline and Van, all sending runners to compete at the annual Yellowjacket Invitational Cross Country Meet.
