The Grand Saline School Board recently called for a $34.75 million bond election to take place on May 3 to build a new Grand Saline Middle School campus. According to Grand Saline ISD Superintendent Micah Lewis, Early Voting is scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 22 and conclude on Tuesday, April 29 from 7 a.m.

The Texas Star Quilters Guild (TSQG) will be presenting Amanda Davis at their monthly meeting on April 21. Davis is a local quilt judge and will be sharing her knowledge and tips on just how quilts are judged at shows.

Michael Jarrett, 49, and his wife, Stacy, have two children: Abigal Jarrett and Shane Holley. He is a college graduate with an Associates degree.

Traci Kuntzman, 50, and her husband, Aaron, have three sons, two daughters, and four grandchildren including the following: Daughter: McKenzie Preston and husband, Hayden, and sons, Carter and Henry; Sons: Bryan McPherson and Connor McPherson; Bonus Son: Caleb Kuntzman and spouse, Cookie, and son, Jacob Aaron; and Bonus Daughter: Jordan Murray and spouse, Justin, and daughter, Jessie Jo.

Nicholas ‘Nick’ Haley, 41, and his wife, Shonda, have one child, Hannah Aaron. He is a graduate of Edgewood High School and the East Texas Police Academy. Haley is currently employed as a Wood County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy.

Samantha Smith is currently serving on the Van City Council having been appointed in July 2024 to fill the unexpired term of former councilman Linzy Neal. Before serving on the council, Smith served on the City of Van’s Planning and Zoning Board.

“My name is Ernie Burns, and I am excited to say that I am running to fill the unexpired term of Mayor for the City of Van,” said Burns. “I have served the citizens of Van in an official capacity since 2016.
