The Grand Saline School Board recently called for a $34.75 million bond election to take place on May 3 to build a new Grand Saline Middle School campus. According to Grand Saline ISD Superintendent Micah Lewis, Early Voting began will conclude on Tuesday, April 29, from 7 a.m.

Purchase of Paul Michael building tabled by commissioners

DAVID BARBER davidb@vanzandtnews.com Authorizing Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese to close on the purchase of the Paul Michael building on State Highway 19 in Canton was tabled by the VZC Com- missioners Court during its regular meeting April 9. Late last year, the commissioners’ court agreed to a down payment of $60,000 for the building with a final decision on buying the building at a cost of $4.2 million being required by July.

Martins Mill community celebrates double state basketball championships

Over two months has passed since the Martins Mill Mustang and Lady Mustang varsity basketball teams claimed their Class 2A, Division 2, State Basketball Championships, but the celebrating continued April 10 as both teams were honored and recognized with a parade and rally.
Members of the cheerleading squad along with the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs and Mustangs’ varsity basketball teams participated in a parade walk April 10 from the Martins Mill Store to the O’Neal Weaver Gymnasium to celebrate the teams’ Class 2A, Division 2, State Basketball Championships. Early Voting for the Saturday, May 3 city and school elections in Van Zandt County begins Tuesday, April 22. Elections will be held in the City of Grand Saline, the City of Van, Fruitvale ISD, Grand Saline ISD, Canton ISD, Wills Point ISD, and the City of Wills Point.
