Astronomical Society of ET to sponsor viewing

The Mineola Nature Preserve, in conjunction with the Astronomical Society of East Texas, will sponsor a viewing of the Perseids Meteor Shower at the Nature Preserve on Saturday evening, August 12, 2023, from dark until midnight. “The location is the ‘East’ parking lot so park on the ‘West’ side,” said an event spokesperson.

3-2 vote results in approval of officials’ salaries

With Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese changing his vote from last month, the fiscal year 2024 VZC elected officials’ salary proposal was approved in another 3-2 vote during the regular meeting of the VZC Commissioners Court Aug. 2.

Losing her spouse to cancer eight years ago after 34 years of marriage inspired Lizzy Nations of Van to share her story through writing. The author, who still calls Van home today, discussed in her book, titled ‘When God Says Move, Move,’ what her journey through the years since her loss has taught her about life but even more about death.

It’s back to school time

All the school districts in Van Zandt County will start the new school year in the next few days. The first schools to reopen are those in Wills Point and Fruitvale.
