The Van Zandt County Precinct 3 meeting of the VZC Precinct Watch Program will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the Wills Point Community Center. The center is located at 307 North Fourth Street.

The Van Zandt County Pet Project is encouraging pet owners to have their pets spayed and neutered. “Mating season starts soon,” said a VZC Pet Project spokesperson.

In last week’s issue of the News, it was stated that the City of Edom would hold a school board election in November 2024. The information should have read that Edom will have a city election but not until 2025.

With less than two weeks remaining until the Friday, Feb. 16 candidate filing deadline, very few filings have been reported for the May 4 city and school elections in Van Zandt County.

Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson reminds Texans that the deadline to register or update your registration in time for the primary election is Monday, Feb. 5.

For the second regular monthly meeting in a row, the Van City Council took no action regarding purchasing radios for the police and fire departments to operate with the new Van Zandt County radio system currently being installed.

In observance of School Board Appreciation Month, members of the Van School Board were showered with gifts and words of appreciation Jan. 22 from campus principals during their first regular monthly meeting of 2024.
