Van High School will be celebrating Homecoming 2023 during the week of Sept. 11-15 concluding with the Homecoming football game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 featuring the Van Vandals taking on the Paris Wildcats. District-wide dress up days will be taking place all week at each Van ISD campus.The community-wide Pep Rally is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, with the VHS Homecoming Pep Rally set for 2:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15. Nominees for 2023 Van High School Homecoming Queen and King are left to right, Allya Aleston, Trae Derrick, Ava Hopson, Reggie Johnson, Presley Bryant, Logan Fattig, Landry Jones, Ace Bostick, Coco Brown, and Tuff Arozamena. The 2023 VHS Queen and King will be announced at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at Van’s Memorial Stadium.

New voting equipment approved in 3-2 vote

davidb@vanzandtnews.com In what is believed to be the final step in the process, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court voted 3-2 during their regular meeting Aug. 30 to approve a master agreement with Hart Intercivic of Austin for new voting equipment that will be ready to use in time for the Nov. 7 election this year.
Van Zandt County resident Karen Reeves shared her strong opposition to a proposal by the VZC Commissioners Court to enter into a contract with Hart Intercivic of Austin to buy new voting equipment.
