The Edom arts community and many other well-wishers turned out on March 9 to dedicate a historical marker for Potters Brown, a pottery shop and studio opened in Edom in 1971 by revered artist Doug Brown (1943-2020). Beth Brown, Doug’s widow and fellow potter, led the ceremony to unveil the marker, located in front of the Potters Brown shop.

Man arrested, charged with criminal mischief

On Tuesday, March 12, the Van Police Department arrested a man suspected of striking a multi-station fuel pump causing a fire, according to the Tyler KETKTV website. A spokesperson with the Van Police Department confirmed to the News that the story on the KETK-TV website was accurate.

Mustangs end season with loss to Beckville, 53-48

A 14-game winning streak and the season both came to an end March 1 for the Martins Mill Mustangs’ varsity boys’ basketball team at the hands of Beckville, 5348, in overtime. Jak Kinder led the Mustangs, 32-5 overall for the season, in scoring with 22 points.

Canton, Van well represented on All-District Team

Several members of the District 16-4A Basketball Champion Canton Eaglettes and the third place Van Lady Vandals were recognized for their achievements on and off the court recently. Coach Troy Carrell’s Eaglettes, 33-6 overall during the season, advanced as deep as the Class 4A Regional Finals in addition to winning the district, bi-district, and Area round titles during their playoff run.

Lady Mustangs defeat Nocona, Goldthwaite to win title

The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs captured the Class 2A State Championship March 2 with a thrilling 44-42 win in the championship game played at The Alamodome in San Antonio. The Lady Mustangs finished their state title season with an overall record of 36-5.
The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs captured their seventh state championship since 2006 as they defeated Nocona, 44-42, March 2 at The Alamodome in San Antonio to win the Class 2A Girls’ State Basketball Championship. Van council hears update on Solar Eclipse plans
