An early morning house fire west of Canton Jan. 24 resulted in the death of Linda Jones, 74, of Canton, according to Van Zandt County Fire Marshal Kevin Palmer.
A house fire at 27866 State Highway 64 in Canton resulted in a fatality during the pre-dawn hours of Jan. 24. The homeowner, Linda Jones, 74, of Canton, died in the fire. After a Smith County jury found a Henderson County man guilty Jan. 17 of a first-degree felony in relation to what the jury believed was giving orders that led to the 2020 shooting death of a motorcyclist near Tyler, the court then followed that conviction Jan. 21 by sentencing him to life in prison.
