Van ISD promotes Hutchins to Director of Operations

Van High School Principal Jeff Hutchins has been promoted to the position of Director of Operations for Van ISD fol- Hutchins has spent 28 total years in education with 18 of those being in Van ISD. He has served as VHS Principal for the past 12 years and is a 1989 graduate of VHS.

County sees 12.42 percent increase in sales tax revenues

The Texas State Comptroller’s Office delivered mostly positive results to Van Zandt County cities last week, announcing that five out of seven local entities had posted sales tax revenue gains when comparing against collection totals against the same month from the previous year.

Van council tables action on revised EDC by-laws

After several minutes of discussion, the Van City Council took no action regarding revised Economic Development Corporation (EDC) by-laws during its regular monthly meeting April 13. Van Mayor Pro-Tem Ernie Burns joined the meeting through ZOOM as he was out of town due to a family illness.

County goes blue for Child Abuse Awareness Month

Have you noticed signs or blue pinwheels around the county informing the public about child abuse this month? That is because April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. Van Zandt has a board of members from most towns in the county comprised of different ethnicities, genders, socioeconomic status, and races.

There were 103 exhibitors that qualified to sell their projects at the Junior Livestock Auction on Friday, March 31 during the county fair. The Grand Champion Steer belonging to Bryntlee Wilkerson with Van Zandt 4-H sold for $33,000 to a group of buyers: Wills Point Ford, Wills Point Cheverolet, EPIC, SR Construction, P&W Welding, Hidden Oakes Cattle, Michele Neal Consulting, Sweet Baby Rays Consulting, Firehouse Pools & Outdoors, First State Bank Ben Wheeler, A-1 Consulting, Cajun Marine, Wagonburner, Hawes Cattle Company, Cowboy Headquarters, and SDSDale & Marty Nace.
