Tax rate approved by Van trustees

A tax rate that includes an 18.54 cent decrease was approved by the Van School Board in a 4-0 vote Aug. 21 during the regular monthly meeting of the Van School Board. Trustees Shannon Johnson and Scott Thomas were not in attendance.

The Myrtle Springs Volunteer Fire Department, with assistance from several other fire departments, responded to a large brush fire at 2:55 p.m. Aug. 20 on VZCR’s 3440 and 3441. Other fire departments assisting the MSVFD included Wills Point, Canton, Edgewood, and South Van Zandt as well as the Canton Police Department.
