New hirings announced by Van School Board

Following a closed executive session at the conclusion of their regular monthly meeting June 17, the Van School Board announced one resignation, four new hirings, and one reassignment. Trustees Nathan Daniels, Wes Hightower, and Shannon Johnson were not in attendance as the board barely had a quorum in place to conduct business.

FEMA provides assistance for houses of worship

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) may provide funds to houses of worship and other private nonprofit organizations to help pay for emergency protective measures, debris removal, and restoration of facilities damaged by the storms and flooding April 26June 5 in Texas. FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) program may cover costs to repair or replace damaged facilities or provide funding for hazard mitigation measures during the recovery process.

WP animal control officer arrested

According to a press release from the SPCA of Texas, on Wednesday, June 20, an arrest warrant was issued for City of Wills Point Animal Control Officer Michael Bradford Goggans. He was taken into custody and charged with Cruelty to Non-livestock Animals – Torture, which is a third-degree felony, and was booked into the Van Zandt County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Former WPISD teacher arrested in VZC

A former Wills Point ISD teacher was arrested and booked into the Van Zandt County Jail June 20 before being released on the same day. Amanda Blakely Green, 36, of Kaufman, was charged with two counts of online solicitation of a minor by sexual conduct and possessing child pornography, according to the VZC Sheriff’s Office.
