The fifth week of the 2021 season provided something for everyone, with multiple high scoring games and thrilling finales. Unlike the previous two weeks, Van was not alone in registering a win as both Canton and Edgewood returned to the win column.

Vandals stay hot with 49-12 win

Area football fans likely came away with a sense of déjà vu last week as, for the second consecutive Friday night, county teams went a combined 1-5 overall on the gridiron. Van once again proved to be the exception to the rule, retaining their perfect record with a 37-point rout of Pittsburg. Other schools were not as lucky as Canton, Edgewood, Fruitvale, Grand Saline and Wills Point all suffered setbacks.

Running Eagles race in Mineola

The Canton Running Eagle ran at the Mineola Nature Preserve Sept. 16, winning first overall in the varsity girls division and fifth overall in the varsity boys division.
