Lady Vandals continue tournament play

The Lady Vandal volleyball program rolled out the red carpet last weekend, welcoming teams from Lindale, White Oak, Mineola, Kilgore, Cumby, Bullard, Lone Oak, Timpson, New Boston, Mt. Pleasant and Carthage to Van for their annual home tournament.

Canton Eaglettes outduel Rusk, win in five

The Canton Eaglettes had to put in some extra time on the court last week, clashing with a talented Rusk squad that finished last season with a trip to the playoffs. Canton would ultimately prevail in the show down, storming back from a sluggish start to claim a five-set victory.

The start of a new football season is now less than a week away for county schools with Canton, Edgewood, Fruitvale, Grand Saline, Van and Wills Point all set to hit the field Aug. 27.

Familiar faces will fill the sidelines with only one school, the Edgewood Bulldogs, undergoing a coaching change.

The Wills Point Lady Tigers have set a lightning fast pace throughout the opening weeks of the 2021 volleyball season, notching wins at an impressive clip as they continue their march towards the start of district play. After suffering a four-set loss during their first match of the year Aug. 10, the Lady Tigers roared back with an impressive run at the Palestine Varsity Tournament Aug. 12-14.
