Lady Vandals finish second at Edgewood Tourney

Body The Van Lady Vandals stayed close to home last weekend, competing in Edgewood’s annual varsity volleyball tournament. Van fared well overall during the two-day event, going a combined 3-2 with a second place finish.

Fourth-ranked netters win again

Body The Wills Point Tiger tennis program tallied two more wins last week, pushing their overall season record to 7-1.
The Tiger tennis program continues to be a model of consistency on the court, climbing to fourth overall in the most recent Class 4A State Tennis Rankings. Wills Point is currently 7-1 overall while playing a slate that has included mostly schools from the 5A and 6A classifications. Courtesy photo

Eaglettes claim Athens Tournament crown

Body The Canton Eaglettes were kept busy last weekend, hitting the court seven times over a three-day span Aug. 26-28. The workload did not slow down Canton, which went a combined 6-1 overall in those matches including a win in the championship game of the Athens Tournament.

Lady Vandals continue tournament play

Body The Lady Vandal volleyball program rolled out the red carpet last weekend, welcoming teams from Lindale, White Oak, Mineola, Kilgore, Cumby, Bullard, Lone Oak, Timpson, New Boston, Mt. Pleasant and Carthage to Van for their annual home tournament.

Canton Eaglettes outduel Rusk, win in five

Body The Canton Eaglettes had to put in some extra time on the court last week, clashing with a talented Rusk squad that finished last season with a trip to the playoffs. Canton would ultimately prevail in the show down, storming back from a sluggish start to claim a five-set victory.

Body The start of a new football season is now less than a week away for county schools with Canton, Edgewood, Fruitvale, Grand Saline, Van and Wills Point all set to hit the field Aug. 27.
