Two of the top 2A programs in the state clashed for the first time this season Jan. 24 as Martins Mill made the trek to LaRue to clash with the LaPoynor Lady Flyers.

The Canton Eagles, who gave themselves little room for error following a district-opening loss to Athens in December, picked up two necessary wins this past week to improve to 3-1 on the slate.

The Edgewood Lady Dogs continued to tighten their grip on another potential district title this week, upending the Rains Lady Cats and Commerce Lady Tigers in key battles. Edgewood began its week with arguably its biggest game of the season, clashing with district co-leader Rains Jan.

The Martins Mill Mustangs hit the most critical stretch of their season last week, tipping off District 19-2A play with games against state-ranked Frankston and Cayuga. The Mustangs would ace both tests, jumpstarting their quest for a spot in this year’s 2A playoffs.

The Van Lady Vandals and Canton Eaglettes renewed their longstanding rivalry last week, clashing in a contest that could go a long way towards determining the final outcome of this year’s District 16-4A title race.
