The Canton Eaglettes were kept busy last weekend, hitting the court seven times over a three-day span Aug. 26-28. The workload did not slow down Canton, which went a combined 6-1 overall in those matches including a win in the championship game of the Athens Tournament.

The Eaglettes began play on a winning note, knocking off Brook Hill in two sets, 25-22, 25-19. Things continued to go Canton’s way in their second match of the tournament as the Eaglettes notched an easy 25-11, 25-11 win over Mildred.

Canton’s lone stumble of the week occurred in their final match of pool play as the Eaglettes fell to Gatesville in a three-set heartbreaker, 25-19, 15-25, 29-27.

The Eaglettes hit the pause button briefly on tournament play Aug. 27, traveling to Sunnyvale for a meeting with the Lady Raiders. Canton made short work of the always-talented Sunnyvale program, notching a 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 win.

Once back in Athens Aug. 28, the Eaglettes scored wins over both Neches (25-14, 25-17) and Cayuga (25-19, 25-20) to advance to the tournament final against Marshall.

Canton would again earn a twoset win, topping Marshall 25-12, 25-23.

Coach Autumn Loyd called the effort a complete team win stating, “Rockie Collier had 17 kills, Payton Bray had 10 kills, Emma Welty had 12 kills, and Airianna Pickens had 11 kills.

The Eaglettes will look to continue their winning ways this week when they travel to Whitehouse Aug. 31 before tangling with Whitehouse on the road Aug. 31.
