Richard (Rick) York

Richard York took the hand of Jesus on Sunday morning, June 2, 2024. He was born December 10, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He grew up in Duncanville and graduated college at ETSU in Commerce, where he met his wife, Shirley.
After graduation, they made their home in Canton. Rick joined the Dallas Fire Department, working as both firefighter and paramedic. He loved his job and always said, “I would do it all again,” giving everyone and everything his very best.
While in Canton, they attended Lakeside Baptist Church. He sang in the choir and served in other capacities. He lived his life striving to please his Lord and Savior and reflecting on everything he learned.
Following retirement, Rick and Shirley moved to Montrose, Colorado, where he enjoyed hiking, golfing, and fishing in the beautiful mountains he loved. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Beedie Cosban York; mother, Wanda lee Votaw York; brother, Randy York; sister, Nikki Jo York McCallum; and inlaws, Carl and Charlsie Syler.
He will always be loved and missed by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Ann Syler York; daughter Katherine Ann York Beaudoin and husband, Bradley; and granddaughter Jayden Ann Beaudoin.
Interment took place at grand view cemetery in Montrose, under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home.
