Mary Elizabeth White was born on July 23, 1932, in Edgewood to parents James Alfred White and Clara Dee Adams White. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked in the sewing factory in Edgewood and later served as supervisor at a sewing factory in Point. Mary was active in her Sunday school class at First Baptist Church in Edgewood and previously attended Pleasant Union Baptist Church in Edgewood. Mary made many crocheted items that were sold by her Sunday school class with proceeds funding their group’s many benevolence projects. She was also a good cook and loved cooking for her family, serving countless pots of coffee and plates of cooking to anyone who stopped by. Her family enjoyed her many pies, often making each family members’ favorite.

Mary could even keep a Poinsettia alive all year long. She enjoyed country drives and seeing exotic animals, but the thing she did best was loving her Savior and her family.
