? Breast cancer occurs when there is rapid growth of mutated (cancerous) cells in the tissues of the breasts, and potentially in the surrounding skin and lymph nodes. Various factors contribute to the development of cancer, including genetics, gender, environmental exposure to certain materials, and lifestyle choices like diet and exercise.

UT-Health Education Coordinator Are you a Woman: 40-75 years old; or 30 to 39 and have a mother/ sister diagnosed with breast cancer? Hasn’t had a mammogram in the past 12 months? Uninsured or Underinsured (healthcare coverage does not cover preventative services)? Lives in or receives your primary care from providers in the counties of Anderson, Cherokee, Gregg, Henderson, Rusk, Smith, Van Zandt? If you meet these minimum requirements, you may be eligible for a free Mammogram Screening from D.E.F.E.A.T (Delivering Education, Focused navigation, and Equitable Access Throughout East Texas) Breast Cancer Project. This project aims to provide access to vital breast cancer screenings for those who may not have resources to do so otherwise.
