davidb@vanzandtnews.com Voters in the City of Van had the opportunity to vote May 3 in a $3.5 million bond election to address drilling, constructing, and improving Water Well #3. The order of election was called in a unanimous vote by the Van City Council during its regular monthly meeting Feb.

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Driver Safety Program and the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library located at 317 First Monday Lane (FM 859) in Canton are sponsoring a driver safety class from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the library.

On April 21, a member of the Criminal Interdiction Team from the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office performed a vehicle stop resulting in an arrest for suspected heroin. A member of the VZC Criminal Interdiction Team was on routine patrol in VZC when the deputy observed a vehicle committing multiple moving violations.

Following a meeting held April 21, the Edgewood School Board announced that Scott Tyner has been named as the lone finalist for the position of Edgewood ISD Superintendent. Tyner is currently the Martins Mill ISD Superintendent where he has served since 2021.

Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney Tonda Curry updated the VZC Commissioners Court during its regular meeting April 23.

Republican Club of Van Zandt County Vice-President Krista Schild will be our featured guest speaker at the next Republican Club of Van Zandt County meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the VZC Farm Bureau Building located at 220 Burnett Trail in Canton.

The Grand Saline School Board recently called for a $34.75 million bond election to take place on May 3 to build a new Grand Saline Middle School campus. According to Grand Saline ISD Superintendent Micah Lewis, Early Voting began will conclude on Tuesday, April 29, from 7 a.m.
