For the 15th year in a row, the Van Zandt County Historical Commission was recognized for their efforts as they were presented with the ‘Distinguished Service Award’ (DSA) for 2023 by the Texas Historical Commission (THC).

This past week, I had the opportunity to take a step back in time to Wind Point at Lake Tawakoni. Over four decades ago, I remember fishing here from the bank near the end of the point with a buddy and catching a bunch of catfish.

Two arrested on I-20 for money laundering

Following a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near Wills Point Aug. 1, two Chinese men were arrested for money laundering after approximately $250,000 in gold bullion was recovered by law enforcement from the suspects’ vehicle.

Driver involved in high-speed chase arrested in Dallas

davidb@vanzandtnews.com The driver of a stolen white Camaro that was involved in a high-speed chase July 18 in Van Zandt County has been arrested by the Dallas Police Department (DPD), according to VZC Pct. 3 Constable Jeff Caughron.

The Department of Public Safety (DPS), EMS, the Wills Point Fire Department and the Rolling Oaks Fire Department responded to a small plane crash around the area of FM 751 and VZCR 3811 near Wills Point July 31. According to The County Eagle, one of the two occupants suffered minor injuries.
