With the Van Vandals concluding their non-district schedule and preparing for their District 7-4A, Division II, opener on the road against the Mexia Black Cats Friday, Oct. 15, Vandal coaches recently released their updated team and individual statistics so far for the 2021 football season.

The Vandals are currently 6-0 for the season and are ranked seventh in the state in Class 4A, Division II, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.

Offensively, as their season record would indicate, the Vandals have registered some impressive numbers so far in 2021.

As a team, the Vandals have posted the following offensive totals and well as their averages per game in the following categories:

Offensive plays: 395 (65.84 plays per game).

First downs: 130 (21.67 per game).

Rushing yardage: 1,365 yards (227.5 yards per game).

Passing yardage: 1,215 yards (202.5 yards per game).

Total yardage: 2,580 yards (430 yards per game).

Points scored: 241 points (40.17 yards per game).

The Vandals have committed 28 penalties (4.67 penalties per game) and have committed six turnovers in six games (four interceptions and two lost fumbles).

Individually on offense, quarterback Jackson Rainey has completed 88 out of 148 passes (60 percent) for 1,215 yards, 21 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Rainey is also the leading rusher for the Vandals as he has registered 657 yards rushing on 74 carries for an average of 8.8 yards per carry, and he has scored six TD’s on the ground.

The senior QB currently has accounted for 1,872 yards of total offense (312 yards per game) and has scored 27 TD’s overall.

Other top rushers for the Vandals include Alex Zifer with 452 yards on 80 carries (5.65 per carry average) and two TD’s; Garrett Florey with 140 yards on 30 carries (4.67 per carry average) and DeMarcus Stinnett with 128 yards on 28 carries (4.58 yards per carry).

Luca Kozhev leads the Vandal receivers with 39 receptions for 612 yards (15.7 yards per reception) and 12 TD’s.

Other top receivers for the Vandals include Brayden Bradshaw with 13 receptions for 118 yards (9.08 yards per reception) and one TD; Ryder Shoquist with 10 receptions for 158 yards (15.8 yards per reception) and three TD’s; Zifer with eight receptions for 98 yards (12.25 yards per reception); Cayden Mitchell, eight receptions for 69 yards (8.63 yards per reception) and two TD’s; and John Crow, six receptions for 98 yards (16.3 yards per reception) and three TD’s.

Individual defensive statistics for the 2021 campaign so far provided by the Vandal coaching staff show the following season numbers:

Total tackles: Beau Barton, 68; K. D. Erskine, 45; Braydon Hullum, 43; Garrett Florey, 40; Ryan Johnson, 39; Mason Moffatt, 38; Wyatt Dale and Kaison Stanford, 33 each; Reed Parish, 30; Reed Johnson, 28; Colton Miller, 27; and Cayden Mitchell, 10.

Tackles for loss: Barton, 16; Erskine, 14; Dale and Reed Johnson, four each; and Florey and Moffatt, two each.

Quarterback sacks: Barton, six; Moffatt, five; and Miller and Erskine, two each.

Fumbles caused: Erskine, two; and Brayden Bradshaw and Florey, one each.

Fumble recoveries: Miller, two; and Bradshaw, Mitchell, and Dale, one each.

QB pressures: Barton, seven; Stanford, six; Erskine, five; Hullum and Moffatt, four each; Miller, three; and Florey, two.

Batted passes/pass breakups: Parish, five; Reed Johnson, three; and Florey, Mitchell and Dale, two each.

Erskine has registered the only turnover that resulted in a touchdown.

As a team, the Vandals have allowed 143 points (24 points per game).
