Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding shoppers they can save money on clothes and school supplies during the state’s sales tax holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 5-7.

A high-speed chase that began with an attempted stop in neighboring Smith County came to an end in Van Zandt County shortly before 2 p.m. July 26.

The number of newly confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases reported in Van Zandt County increased by 97 last week according to figures published by the Northeast Texas Public Health District July 21. Van Zandt County had seen 6,968 confirmed cases and 4,909 probable cases since the pandemic was first tracked.

The Neches River Chapter NSDAR met in Canton July 14. Chapter member Patricia Thibodeau gifted a Lantern for the chapter to Vice Regent Rose Ann Ward. The chapter has received Lantern Status from the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Our treasure chest is quickly emptying as the end of summer is rapidly approaching. Children are telling us about the lunch boxes and backpacks they are getting for the coming school year. Summer always seems to pass too quickly but we are eagerly anticipating cooler fall weather as this summer has been hotter than expected.
