The game would quickly turn into a duel of the aces, with Jaycee Bullard going for Canton and Kai Hudson dealing for Mabank.

The Canton track and field program was able to enjoy the comforts of home last week, welcoming county foes Edgewood and Van as well as Caddo Mills, Mabank, Mineola and Sunnyvale for the annual Eagle Relays at Norris Birdwell Stadium March 30.

Voter registration deadline draws closer

Texas Secretary of State Jane Nelson reminds all eligible Texas voters to make sure they are registered to vote by Thursday, April 6 to vote in the May 6 local elections across the State of Texas. Not all local governmental entities will be holding elections on May 6, and Texas voters should check with their county elections office for more information on which municipalities, school districts, and other local political subdivisions will be holding elections.

Wood County accident claims two lives

A two-vehicle accident approximately four miles southwest of Quitman resulted in the passing of two individuals March 26, including a 17-year old Alba resident and a 69year old Quitman resident. According to information released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m.

Former church employee indicted on theft charges

ETHAN ADAMS news@vanzandtnews.com A Van Zandt County woman who previously served in various roles at Lakeside Baptist Church in Canton has been indicted by the VZC grand jury on a second-degree felony charge of theft from a non-profit. Donna Corey Drake was booked into a Van Zandt County Jail March 17 on charges that she stole thousands of dollars from Lakeside Baptist Church over an almost four-year span between 2018 to 2022.
