As we prepare to bring in the new year of 2024, it is time to take a look back at the stories and photos that made 2023 a year so eventful. From the swearing-in ceremony for 16 Van Zandt County public officials on the first day of the year to the Martins Mill High School Robotics state championship late in the year, there were many accomplishments and some disappointments that occurred.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Media & Communications/ Safety Education Sgt. Adam Albritton, a preliminary investigation indicated that on Dec. 26, 2003, at around 6 p.m., a civilian aircraft crashed in the area of 114 Private Road 7005 in Edgewood.

In their final game before their Christmas holiday break, the Van Lady Vandals scored an impressive 68-29 victory over Palestine at home in non-district play. Landry Jones led the Lady Vandals with 18 points, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
