Deadline to purchase Paul Michael building extended to Nov. 15

Following a closed executive session during a special called meeting June 23, the Van Zandt County Commissioners’ Court voted 4-1 to accept new renegotiated terms regarding the purchase of the Paul Michael building (1930 North Trades Day Blvd.) in Canton.

VZC Commissioners’ Court faced busy agenda June 18

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Several topics were discussed by the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court during its regular meeting June 18. The commissioners’ court approved the Consent Agenda which included the following items: Approved the reading of the minutes of the May 30 and June 4 commissioners’ court meetings; Approved the VZC bills for payment as submitted; Approved ratifying the VZC bills as submitted; Approved the Monthly Reports submitted by various offices and departments of VZC government to be entered into the minutes of the commissioners’ court as a matter of record; Approved the acceptance of the May 2025 Financial & Investment Report of the VZC Treasurer to be entered into the minutes of the commissioners’ court; and Approval of Proposed Installation of Pipe and/or Utility Lines for VZCR 1910.

Weaver brother/sister duo collecting for firefighters

For the fifth consecutive year, the brother/sister duo of Grayson and Alice Weaver, Canton ISD students, will be collecting water, Gatorade, and individually wrapped snacks for local firefighters and First Responders.

Temporary Restraining Order extended to July 24

According to Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney Tonda Curry, the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the developers of a lithium battery storage facility being built south of Canton has been extended through Thursday, July 24 by VZC District Judge Chris Martin of the 294th Judicial District.

UT Tyler recognizes VZC students on Dean’s List

The University of Texas at Tyler announced the Van Zandt County students who were named to the Spring 2025 Dean’s List. To qualify for the university’s Dean’s List, a student must have completed 12 or more credit hours of undergraduate college-level credit in the awarding term with a grade point average of at least 3.75.
